Conceived and curated by artist Carrie Mae Weems, 250 and Change aims to engage with these questions by calling on the unique power of artists to interpret and chart a course through our current national reality at this pivotal moment. It’s a moment that brims with equal parts dystopian fear and defiant hope, animated at once by the stark dissolution of the societal structures that safeguard our lives and the searing clarity of the collective moral compass that has pushed for progress and equity and guided us to this point. It is a moment that cries out for meaning. Artists will be the messengers who provide it.
250 and Change invites fifty artists from fifty states to make a monument to the future as they imagine it. These small-scale works will be presented on a traveling truck, visiting cities across the country from 2027 through 2029.
