The great pianist Geri Allen and the world-renowned photographer and video artist Carrie Mae Weems teamed up for this special world premiere commission. SLOW FADE TO BLACK combined Weems’ arresting projections with an astonishing night of music featuring allen’s new trio with fellow jazz giants Esperanza Spalding and Terri Lyne Carrington, her regular group timeline, Lizz Wright, Patrice Rushen, the Howard University vocal group Afro Blue, the tap dancer Maurice Chestnut, and many surprises.
